Holiday Bungalow for Dog Lovers, East Dorset

Sleeps 4 + up to 8 dogs

About the Surrounding Area

The bungalow is on the edge of Alderholt, a large village in East Dorset. The picturesque small river town of Fordingbridge is 3 miles away.

Local Food Shop and Pub

There is a small Co-op supermarket and a very dog-friendly pub – The Churchill Arms – 5 minutes' walk from the bungalow.

Places to Walk the Dog(s)

You can take your dog(s) for a walk straight from the doorstep into a wooded area and meadows (see satellite view of the map).

If you need to be sure that your dog(s) doesn't/don't stray, you can hire a good size enclosed field (photo), 10 minutes away by car in Bickton, just south of Fordingbridge (Wild and Free Dog Meadows).

A short drive away, there are many more delightful woodland walks, including in the New Forest.

A little further afield there are sandy beaches where dogs are welcome all year round (Mudeford Sandbank).

For Children

There are different activities nearby for the children / youngsters:

  • Water Park (New Forest Water Park, Fordingbridge)
  • Go Ape Forest (nearest is Moors Valley), and
  • a multi-activity centre (Moors Valley country park and forest - photo) with bike hiring, miniature railway, Go Ape Forest, and much more.

Places to Visit

The medieval cathedral city of Salisbury is a half-hour drive north of Alderholt, and a half-hour to the south is the Dorset and Hampshire coastline (Highcliffe Castle; dogs welcome).

Closer to home, with a café and garden, is Cranborne Garden Centre.

Other Pubs

There are some charming “olde world” New Forest Pubs (for example: The Horse & Groom, The Royal Oak, The Rose and Thistle, The Compasses Inn) where you might see horses, ponies and donkeys grazing outside. A lot of these pubs are dog-friendly too.
